Type Locality and Naming

Along the Syurenyata Ridge, left bank of the Chirchik River. A.A. Abdusamatov, 1989f. (Decision of the Commission on the Paleogene System of SredazRMSK, 1989). Stratotype in the Syurenyata gorge area. Since 1988, it has been used in the preparation of reference legends, in geological-exploration and thematic works of the Chatkal-Kuramin ore region.

Synonym: Syurenyatinskaya Svita, Сюренбазинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Hard limestones, conglomerates (collapse breccia), gray, pink, red, with layers of algal limestones, gravelites. Thickness up to 80m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies conformably on the Akkum Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain conformably by the Alay Fm (in Fergana F2)

Regional extent

Prishashkent district, southwestern foothills of the Chatkal Ridge. Initially, the S. sub-suite also included quartz-feldspar-mica sands, sandstones with lenses and layers of gravelites, which A.A. Abdusamatov et al. (1988f) later separated into the Akkum sub-suite.

Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Ostrea turkestanensis Rom., Lucina consobrina Desh., L. menardi Desh., Tellina poretskaye Tolstik. and others.
